Credit card Fraud control

20 October 2011

I had an interesting set of text messages yesterday from my Credit Card provider, MBNA. I purchased a airline ticket from Wizz air, but the ticket was from Hungery to UK return. So I would not have been surprised that it looked strange to their fraud systems.

Messages from MBNA asking if the transaction was authorised.

The message arrived the day after I bought the ticket, so it is obviously run on the settlement transaction rather than the Authorisation. Obviously they are using the returning MSISDN to link the reply to the sent message. But a nice easy way of processing this sort of fraud detection, easier for the Issuer, and easier for me than dealing with a phone call, authorisation, calling back, getting redirected around the call centre…
